Dear Valued Burke Williams Guests,

It is with deep regret that Burke Williams will be closing its San Francisco location on April 28, 2025. This difficult decision comes as a direct result of the city’s failure to address the deterioration of safety and overall conditions in the downtown area, which has made it impossible for us to continue operations.

We want to thank you for your patronage over these past 20 years. Your loyalty has been the cornerstone of our success. We will miss each of you and wish you the best on your wellness journeys.

Having a presence in San Francisco was both a professional and personal dream for my wife, Theresa, and me. As Bay Area natives, we were proud to open Burke Williams, San Francisco, nearly twenty years ago, aspiring to become an integral part of the city’s fabric. Over the past two decades, our mission of bringing a sanctuary of rest and escape to the people of San Francisco was achieved, and it was an honor to be part of your community.

Unfortunately, due to the myriad decisions made by the city council, mayor, and government infrastructure, we have witnessed rampant deterioration in safety in the surrounding area, resulting in a precipitous decline in business. Further, these policies have forced numerous businesses, such as Nordstrom and Bloomingdale's to withdraw from this once vibrant and iconic area. This decision is not one we are making lightly, nor is it a reflection of Burke Williams' financial health—our company remains strong. Instead, it is the culmination of ongoing challenges posed by years of poor policies, neglect, and deterioration in the surrounding area. Today, the San Francisco Centre is operating with only a 20% – 30% tenancy factor, leaving the environment around us deeply affected. While we held on as long as possible, the reality is that we can no longer operate in a location where the city fails to provide for the safety and well-being of its people and businesses.

We warmly invite you to visit often before we say goodbye. Our San Francisco location will be closing on April 28th, but until then, we will remain open during our regular operating hours, offering our full menu of services. It would be our pleasure to serve you. We also welcome you to visit our other vibrant locations, including our San Jose location, where we look forward to continuing to care for you as our guest. It has been both an honor and a pleasure to be a part of your community for so long, and we will miss providing so many San Franciscans an oasis of rest and comfort. Thank you again for your patronage and loyalty.

With gratitude,

Bill Armour, President
