When it comes to self-beautification, I've always said, "Invest in your skin." We carefully pick out cleansers and moisturizers that compliment our skin type, we believe in the importance of facials and exfoliation treatments, and we're religious about wearing sunscreen; however many of us neglect the most effective skin care product out there: the consumption of water.
Whether you're jet-setting around the globe or just running errands around town, being out and about is hard on your skin. If you’re serious about looking good, you'll need to grab more than your cell phone, wallet, keys, and lipstick on your way out the front door. To make sure you're prepared, ask yourself the following questions before you leave the house:
Stretch out your hand and take a look at your nails. See those tiny crescents of skin at the base of each nail? Your cuticles are made of the same cells as the rest of your skin, but because they’re thinner than the skin on your elbows, back, knees and ankles, cuticles are ultra-sensitive and far more prone to wear and tear. For that reason, you may need to take extra precautions to keep your cuticles healthy.
Breathe and you inhale them. Sip water and they slyly enter your throat. Jog along a mountain trail and your muscles pump them into your bloodstream with every step. They’re free radicals – and they are everywhere. You know you should be fighting back – but against what, exactly? What are free radicals, anyway?
Collagen – it’s a term many of us learned shortly after we were old enough to flip through the pages of glossy fashion magazines. The women we saw inside had the regal cheekbones and knowing eyes that come from decades of knowledge and experience, but laugh lines were curiously absent, and their lips were smooth and plump. How did they do it? Collagen, the ads told us. It all came down to collagen.
