When we opened our doors as one of the first luxury day spas in the United States 40 years ago we could have never imagined Burke Williams scaling to where we’re at today, and as part of that growth there’s an element of giving back including our new initiative that harnesses all of our experience to guide the next generation of massage therapists and other key roles that allow us to continue to provide the relaxing escape we’ve always been known for.
We decided to create new standards around not only what we expect internally, but also what the industry standards should be, which led us to developing our own educational programs that fuse our years of experience along with millions of guests to do exactly that. Our shiatsu course is now nationally-accredited and the first step to so much more.
In the meantime, before the course becomes available, we thought it would be helpful to touch on some of the common questions we get around massage therapy as a career:
How can I advance my career as a massage therapist?
The best way for a massage therapist to advance in their career is to continue to listen, learn and improve your skills over time whether that’s through practice, continued education or ideally a blend of the two – and that’s what Burke Williams provides.
What is the best certification for massage therapy?
The “best” certification for massage therapy is very subjective and highly dependent on what you as a massage therapist truly care about and how you can add the most value to your guests. For example, if you’re a former athlete that intimately understands the value of deep tissue massage maybe that’s your calling.
What is the highest level of education for a massage therapist?
Unlike usual college degrees where the education before getting the degree matters, in the massage industry practice makes perfect and the highest level of education a massage therapist can get is actually putting their skills to work then getting feedback in the moment. And once you’ve done that hundreds, thousands or tens of thousands of times you get a feel for what works and doesn’t work.
Are you an experienced massage therapist and looking forward to what’s next? Explore opportunities at Burke Williams.
