Burke Williams has been a leader in the luxury day spa industry for 40 years and aside from the relaxation our spas provide, the additional services we deliver like massages and facials are what make you shine as well. This blog post aims at the etiquette surrounding gratuities and tipping at spas in general.
And when visiting a Burke Williams spa where you step into an oasis of relaxation or any other spa in the world, the objective is to escape though how do you reward those that provide that restoration for you? At Burke Williams, details are what matters most. The perfectly folded robes/towels, refreshing spa water and other subtle touches create the overall transformational experience.
Below are some of the common questions we see asked online and receive on a regular basis:
What is the proper etiquette when tipping for a massage?
Tipping for a massage is no different than going to a nice dinner, being happy with the results/food, and in the end leaving a tip to say thank you. And when tipping for spa services ranging from massages to facials you should expect to pay between 15-20% of the cost of services or more if you are very satisfied and feeling generous.
How much do you tip for a 60 minute massage?
Similar to what we covered above and depending on the massage you are receiving and where, the gratuity you give shouldn’t be dependent on the length of the massage, type of massage (deep tissue, Swedish, etc.) but instead a percentage of the overall cost (like tipping at a restaurant based on the bill).
Should I tip when I get a facial?
Taking things one step further when it comes to facials in particular, one common question we see asked is whether you should tip when getting a facial? And the simple answer is yes! Based on our experience we see most gratuities for facials falling in the 15-20% range as well.
