In life there is a first for everything and while some people get massages regularly others just haven’t experienced the relaxing escape yet, and there’s no better time to start than now! This blog post touches on some of the common questions we have received at Burke Williams over the past 40 years.
To begin with, the main goal of massage therapy and what you should expect at your first massage is to be comfortable and relaxed – after all that’s why you’re getting a massage in the first place. Don’t be shy to give your therapist feedback, especially when it comes to specific areas to target (for example, you’re suffering from back pain).
Additionally, be sure to ask questions if you’re not positive which massage to get, the benefits of each based on your personal goals, and any other questions that may come to mind. The focus is solely on you and providing time to recharge.
Below are some of the common questions we receive:
What to do when getting a massage for the first time?
Before getting a massage for the first time (or in the future) we suggest having a snack, staying hydrated and be sure to shower beforehand. Also, do not hesitate to share with the massage therapist that it is your first time so they can walk you through the process.
What is the most requested type of massage?
Burke Williams offers a wide variety of massage modalities ranging from lymphatic drainage to pregnancy massages, shiatsu and more though Swedish massages are by far one of the most requested and popular types of massage.
What is the most common part of your body to be massaged?
Looking at all of the body parts that are included in a massage we have to say back massages are where a majority of the focus goes, which makes sense given the surface area of your back compared to other parts of your body as well as the benefits (e.g. deep tissue massages).
We hope the above information helps and if you have any other questions or want to book a massage or spa day at Burke Williams our Guest Services team is here to guide you and only a call away: (866) 239-6635
