Pregnant women are said to have a glow about them. Although moms-to-be may look radiant on the outside, anyone who's ever been pregnant will tell you that they don't always feel fabulous. To look and feel your best while you're expecting, a little pampering is in order – and we’ve got three great ideas.
Get a massage
Pregnancy comes along with a whole host of ailments, from back pain to swollen ankles. A great way to ease these aches and pains is by getting a massage. “Massage is a fantastic thing during pregnancy,” says Karen Boyle MD, a professor of urology, obstetrics and gynecology at Johns Hopkins. “It helps soothe stress, improves circulation, and eases aches and pains, but it's important that the therapist be knowledgeable about pregnancy body changes.”
Boyle is right, and that’s why we offer a special massage treatment specifically for pregnant women. Your Burke Williams therapist is specially trained in pregnancy massage, and you can even add hot stones to your session.
Take a prenatal yoga class
A prenatal yoga class is a fantastic way to look and feel your best during your pregnancy, because it's easy on the joints. Not only will it help you stay in good physical shape throughout your pregnancy, the breathing and meditation exercises will also help clear you mind so you'll feel as good as you look. Breathing exercises can also help you prepare for labor – yet another benefit of indulging in some prenatal yoga.
Get a mani-pedi
Your nails are probably longer and stronger than ever right now, so it’s a great time for a manicure and pedicure. These procedures are safe for pregnant women, because although nail products do contain some chemical compounds, the doses are small and your nail beds won't absorb them. Our technicians will have your hands looking perfectly polished by the time you walk out the door – and in addition to the great nail care, you'll also get a full spa experience, complete with hand and foot massages.
You may have to give up your morning latte and your hair coloring while carrying your little one, but there are plenty of ways to indulge when you’re pregnant. What are your favorite ways to be pampered when you’re expecting? We'd love to hear about them in the comments.
